Throughout the school year, staff participate in continuing education to further their knowledge about child development, best practices in teaching and early childhood education.
Lois Bacharach, 4s Teacher
Lois Bacharach became a teacher at Temple Israel Center Nursery School over 30 years ago after her 4 children graduated from our Nursery School. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees at Hunter College. Playing with grandchildren, crossword puzzles, needlepoint, music and taking care of her collection of cacti currently provide leisure time enjoyment, but every morning she feels blessed to come to work and share her love of teaching with happy, smiling four-year-olds.
Elise Cohen, 3s Teacher
Elise Cohen has been working in our school for over 15 years. She and Barbara Marks are a wonderful team and have been teaching together all these years! Elise loves meeting each new student and their family, and she enjoys watching them blossom and develop throughout the year. She lives in Hartsdale with her husband, Rob and son, Andrew. She is a "Words with Friends" fanatic, loves to travel, and is a huge Yankees fan.
Ronnee Cohen, 2s Teacher
Ronnee has been at Temple Israel Nursery School for more than 25 years, working in both 2s and 3s classes. She lives in Valhalla with her husband Stu and is a very involved and proud grandmother. Ronnee's energy is infectious and she can often be seen hugging children in the hallway, even those who have "graduated" from her class.
Carol Diamond, 2s Teacher
Carol has been working at Temple Israel Center Nursery School for over 15 years. She lives in Scarsdale with her husband, Jeff, and has three children, two that attended Temple Israel Center Nursery School. She has a Masters Degree in Social Work and worked with children for a number of years before becoming a stay at home mom. She began teaching at Temple Israel Center when her youngest entered the 4s class. In her spare time, she likes collecting recipes and cooking for family and friends.
Susan Glickstern, 2s Teacher
Susan Glickstern has been a 2s teacher and a substitute teacher for the past 10 years. Susan's favorite thing about working at the nursery school is that there are no two days alike. You never know what each new day will bring. There's no better feeling than getting hugs from the children as you make your way down the nursery school halls. Susan lives in Irvington with her husband and two sons. In her spare time she loves vacationing with her family and playing tennis.
Claire Harrison, 4s Teacher
Claire, who is the mother of two Temple Israel Center Nursery School graduates, has been teaching here for over 20 years. She was a special education teacher for ten years before becoming a substitute in the Nursery School, and later a teacher. She loves welcoming a new group of students each fall and watching them grow individually and as a class throughout the year. She lives in the Temple Israel Center neighborhood with her husband Harry and their three dogs. Her grown children still have fond memories of Temple Israel Center Nursery School and some of their beloved teachers who are still here!
Jane Kendes, 4s Teacher
Jane has been at Temple Israel Center Nursery School for over 20 years. Jane has taught 2s, 3s, and 4s, as well as yoga and cooking. She has two grown sons, and her younger son is an alum of the Nursery School who had Lois and Claire as teachers. Jane lives in Hartsdale with her husband, Ken, and their two dogs. In her free time she loves to listen to live music, dance, hike, garden and practice yoga.
Wendy Kreisberg, 3s teacher
Wendy has been teaching at Temple Israel Center Nursery School for over 20 years. She has a son, Jeremy, who is an alum of TIC Nursery School. Several years ago, when Jeremy was diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease, Wendy became involved with the Foundation for Fighting Blindness and has chaired their Annual VisionWalk for the past several years. Wendy loves dogs and uses real dog stories to illustrate lessons of sharing and kindness to others.
Sharon Lange, 3s Teacher
Sharon Lange has been living in Scarsdale since she emigrated from South Africa 26 years ago. She has two children, Amanda and Andrew. She loves teaching and has been teaching the 3s at Temple Israel Center Nursery School for 19 years. She also enjoys exercising, going for walks, and especially likes to bake.
Barbara Marks, 3s Teacher
Barbara has been teaching at Temple Israel Center Nursery School for more than 30 years! She taught kindergarten in the NYC public schools for many years before coming to Temple Israel Center. She lives in White Plains with her husband Martin. Their daughter Kate attended Temple Israel Center Nursery School. Barbara is a founding member of the Bikkur Cholim of the Hebrew Institute. She visits hospital and homebound patients regularly and also leads a self help support group for people with emotional issues. She also loves doing yoga and Tai Chi with the children.
Carol Meyers, Assistant Director of The Nursery School
Carol has a BA in Psychology from Clark University and an MA in education from Hunter College. For many years, she was a preschool teacher at Community Synagogue of Rye, a SEIT (Special Education Itinerant Teacher) with Theracare, as well as a Fundraising Coach/Recruiter for the American Cancer Society. Carol enjoys volunteering and has had leadership positions on the URJ Crane Lake and Eisner Camp Board, Community Synagogue, and The Rye Youth Council. Carol and her husband Bill live in Rye with their three children and their Cairn Terrier. In her free time, she enjoys walking, cooking, reading, swimming, and traveling.
GEORGIA MISCHKA, 4S TEACHER
Georgia is a mother of two children and lives in Hastings-on-Hudson. Her background is in theater, and she is a graduate of The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York City. A native New Yorker, Georgia worked in the educational theater throughout the New York City Public Schools and owned a 70-seat non-profit theater in New York City. She started working as a teacher’s assistant when her youngest started school and worked with 3-5 year olds at the COOP Nursery School. Georgia was a Stay & Play teacher at TIC before beginning to teach in the 4s.
Ilana Saposh, 2s Teacher
Ilana was born in White Plains and currently lives there with her husband, Rob who led the Shabbat morning kids' services at TIC for many years. They are TIC members and have three daughters, each graduates of the Temple Israel Center Nursery School. Ilana was a 1st and 2nd grade teacher before she had her own children. She has been at Temple Israel Center Nursery School for over 5 years. She has worked with toddlers in our Parenting Center program and is currently a 2s teacher.
Jonina Steiner, stay & play Teacher
Jo has been teaching since receiving her Master's degree in 1990. She has worked with children of all ages, from two to twelve years old. As a teacher, Jo feels there is no better way to spend a day. Children have an amazing honesty and innocence about them that she finds endearing. She also loves education's resurgence of nature in the classroom and the philosophy of child-centered teaching. Jo has two children of her own - a daughter named Tal Shachar and a son named Binyamin Meir (Ben). They have two adorable dogs - Bella, a miniature poodle, and Mister York, a Yorkshire terrier. Jo is very excited to join both TIC's nursery school and religious school!
